But these shades are not mixed on a palette, they are unfiltered snapshots of San Francisco Bay’s salt ponds. Barbara BoissevainAlthough perhaps less photogenic, the shift is a positive sign, says Dave Halsing, executive project manager of the South Bay Salt Ponds Restoration Project. Today, Cargill still operates 12,000 acres of salt ponds, capable of crystallizing half a million tons of sea salt each year. She remembers visiting the salt ponds for the first time during a science class in third grade. She started by going up in the air once a year to photograph the salt ponds.

The following afternoon, Flower and Jennilyn Nichols would see a doctor at the University of Chicago to learn whether they could keep Flower, 11, on puberty blockers. Sea otters in California are stealing people's surfboards, according to multiple reports. At one point, the sea otter flips the board on its front and then starts tearing it up with its teeth. "Since then, in the past five days now, there's been three more incidents of it," Woodward told KGO. "The otters have joined the war," one person tweeted, while another tweeted: "Sea Otters joining the Orca uprising." "They're actually pretty aggressive animals," San José State University's Moss Landing Marine Laboratories Professor David Ebert told KGO.

The Progress Pride flag is a reimagined version of the traditional Pride Flag, with added stripes (white, pink, light blue, black and brown) to represent the Trans community as well as minority or marginalized communities (here), (here). Other critics were less specific, saying the Progress Pride flag was displayed as more prominent overall. Consulted by Reuters Fact Check, vexillologists (flag experts) offered different perspectives on whether the White House display was a violation of the Flag Code. New York CNN —The Internal Revenue Service has good news for millions of taxpayers in 17 states who received a one-time special state payment last year to offset inflation and other negative economic impacts: Those payments won’t be subject to federal income tax. Prior to the conclusion of its review of state special payments, the agency had suggested recipients hold off on filing their 2022 returns until it made its determination. The IRS decision regarding the federal taxability of special state payments for residents of other states is a little more nuanced. On your 2021 federal tax return, you either claimed the standard deduction, or you itemized. So the amounts that potentially are subject to federal income tax may not be large.
Millions of taxpayers in other states got different types of special payments from their state governments as well — such as income or property tax rebates. In the meantime, the agency advises filers who received special state payments to hold off on filing their returns until guidance is issued. “The best course of action is to wait for additional clarification on state payments rather than calling the IRS,” the agency said. Keep in mind, each state issued special payments for different reasons (e.g., inflation relief, surplus revenue rebates, disaster relief, etc.). So the amounts that potentially are subject to federal income tax may not be large,

Voters in states from across the political spectrum chose to enshrine abortion rights on Tuesday, a major victory for reproductive rights advocates in the first national election since the fall of Roe v. Wade in June. While the amendment’s defeat will not change whether Kentucky residents have abortion access if the state Supreme Court continues to allow a ban that is currently being challenged, abortion rights advocates were thrilled by voters’ support. Meanwhile, voters in two Democratic states, California and Vermont, chose to officially protect abortion rights in their constitutions. Democrats said they care most about abortion rights, while Republicans said their biggest concern was inflation, according to the poll. “Until there’s a new federal right, state constitutions are really the best avenue to ensure reproductive rights and abortion rights in any given state,” she said.
